Tabby Cat Homeschool
Well it's Friday and we've had a great week at Tabby Cat!
Monday was a Holiday so our week was short but action packed with so many activities and things to learn! We are continuing to work on our subjects and really getting into our art and music. Our handwriting is getting better and we are already to J,K and L in our writing! We love our think and learn K5 book, even though it's a bit easy for little smarty pants! We have two reader/exercise books called God's world and Bible activity book that we are working on. We have learned about Elijah and Noah and are spending time discussing them. In our Number skills (arithmetic) book, we are working in the sequence of four (4) with addition, subtraction and introducing multiplication...The book we are using really needs supplementing since math concepts seem to come easy for Sarah. When we go to the Laundromat, Sarah has a great time putting money in the machines and is understanding the relationship of quarters to dollars. Its always a fun trip since it always ends up at the Dollar Store! Our reading is progressing well. Sarah is having a bit of trouble remembering to sound out words and tries to overthink by stating a word that has similar spelling when trying to sound out a word. She has a very, very large vocabulary which really gives her too many choices when sounding out words. Were working on it though! She really likes to read and becomes frustrated that she cannot read something! This is really a blessing as she is driven to learn rather than trying to learn!
We learned about fire safety and personal safety during this week. We practiced Stop,Drop and Roll as well as how to protect ourselves from fire in the home. Our Police section helped to teach us how to stay safe from strangers, in public and on the computer. Which is really relevant as to the recent near abduction that has taken place in our community! We learned how and when to call 911 and when NOT to call 911 and to tell the operator where we are and what the situation is! Fun role playing! In our "Letters and Numbers K5" book we are working with vowels and consonants and how words are arranged. Our phonics is going well but were working hard to remember to sound out words. We're really excited about our music and art! We are spending a lot of time with theme based art. We take a theme and express it utilizing whatever medium we choose for that day. We color, use clay, cut paper or markers to explain our theme! Dad really likes this exercise! In our Music time we are using the keyboard and guitar to make up silly songs, sometimes based on our Art or a conversation related to our school day! Of course we gotta dance right? We have been going to the YMCA as Sarah has a swimming class on Tuesday and Thursday. The family goes and are using it to exercise as well! Brother Joe is a good swimmer and Mom and Dad do water aerobics to help stay fit!
We always start our day with a Prayer, the pledge of allegiance, and our word of the day. We discuss our word, what it means, and how we can use it in a sentence. We then spend some time talking about feelings and how to best express how we feel. These routines as well as frequent breaks and "getting the wiggles out" really are helping to modify our behavior and break some bad habits we have learned. This has dramatically reduced the amount of outbursts, anger issues and "Fleeing" we have done in the past. Our days are not without challenges though, We have to work hard to stay on track, but overall we are making very good progress! Praying everyone has a great weekend!
